Strength comes from within, and fueling your body for tennis is critical. Starting the day off right with a wholesome and healthy breakfast sets the tone for your performance ahead.
If you are like us, you get bored eating the same old breakfast every single day so we hope you will enjoy this fresh idea. This homemade muesli is one of our favorite go-to breakfasts, can be made in minutes and requires no cooking or preparation.
We generally steer clear of most store bought mueslis because they are typically loaded with sugar. However, we love muesli and enjoy making our own at home. When it comes to muesli add-ins, the best are organic berries and nuts. These foods are “superfoods” for a reason, they are great for you!
So load up on antioxidant packed blueberries, blackberries and strawberries with this recipe. These three in particular are known to protect cells from damage and lower inflammation which is key for athletic recovery. Whats more, they boost your immune system while preventing cancer and heart disease; who knew you could accomplish all that just at breakfast?
Nuts and seeds are an important addition to your breakfast because they provide the important fats and protein needed to fuel your activity. Studies have shown that fats help nutrient absorption during digestion, because many vitamins are fat soluble. Protein is used by your body to build and repair tissue which is vital as an athlete.
While most muesli is served with milk or yogurt, dairy can be inflammatory so we limit our consumption. Instead, we opt for coconut yogurt which is a great alternative and still contains all the active probiotic cultures to benefit gut health.
Unfortunately, coconut yogurt can be hard to come across in the United States. We have tried the So Delicious brand, and we are not fans, but maybe you will like it better than us! We LOVE the COYO brand of coconut yogurt and Yoso brand is a close second.
At Realife Tennis, we strive to be healthy from the inside out, and love sharing our recipes and nutrition ideas with you. When trying to reach your optimal level of performance, eating right is an important part of the equation. We hope you will try this healthy meal. Let us know what you think!
Just mix ingredients together in a bowl and enjoy – no cooking required. Yum!
